“Miami” John rushed to the hospital straigth from the WSOP-table

Earlier today there was quite horrible moment during the $2.500 Razz event when “Miami” John Cernuto was in the middle of playing a hand. Cernuto was dragging the pot towards him and seemed to fall asleep as he collapsed to the felt.

Fellow player said “I think he’s not breathing” while he poked him and that is when he fell completely. Play was stopped and WSOP paramedics were called to the table while the tournament officials cleared the area.

Cernuto was laid onto a stretcher and carried out of the tournament area. During the rescue operation Cernuto regained his consciousness and even waved to some of his fans.

“Miami” John was rushed to the hospital where his family and friends joined him.

After a while Communications Director for the WSOP Seth Pelansky informed that Cernuto is diabetic and have had a diabetic coma attack and that is why he collapsed. Other sources tell that Cernuto has hematoma, internal bleeding. One thing is sure, he is now in good care in the hospital.

What makes things a bit brighter is that Cernuto even wanted to know how the hand went and did he win it, so the situation shouldn’t be life threatening.
