Amit started playing poker three years ago in a site that don’t exist anymore, called Tropics Poker. Soon he moved to PokerStars and started to grind $5 sit & gos. He never had a defining moment when he realized that poker could be his career. He just graduated from college and because he was making good money he decided to give poker a try when he is young.

Makhija thinks that if he wouldn’t play poker, he would like to start a small firm. He still think about starting a small business, but realises that it wouldn’t be easy to become an entrepreneur.

When asked how it was to like play in a televised final of 2008 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event, he says it was just awesome. Every poker player dream of playing in a WPT and WSOP final tables and Makhija has been so fortunate to do both in his first year of playing live tournaments.

Still, he would’ve liked to leave the WPT event with the title, as it was painful to watch his opponent John Phan to celebrate his victory. He thinks Phan is a talented player and deserved his victory, but thinks that he also ran very good troughout the tournament.

For beginners, Makhija advices that you should be open-minded and learn how people play. If you don’t constantly learn and adjust your game for other players, you can’t get far in poker. If you are closed-minded and don’t realise that keep evolving, you will for sure end up losing.

When asked why he still plays poker after such a great success, Makhija explains that he just loves poker, because it is such a great game. In a same time it is a very simple and very complex game. It is a perfect mix of skill and gambling.
