The final table started slowly, as nobody wanted to be the first one to bust out of the tournament. Everybody expected that Kelly Kim would fall first, as he had only about ten big blinds left when the tournament resumed. But Kim managed to stay alive and it was Craig Marquis who was eliminated first and painfully. Marquis flopped a set in a preflop all in situation, only to see his opponent to draw runner-runner straight to eliminate him in 9th place!

Kim went out in the very next hand, as he had so small stack that he was practically all-in sitting in the big blind. The board didn’t give him a winning hand and he was out in 8th place. Next to go was David “Chino” Reem, who was eliminated by the soon-to-be-finalist, Peter Eastgate. Reem got his money in for good with ace-king against ace-queen, but the queen on the flop was too much for him and he was out in 7th place.

Darus Suharto was eliminated next, as he made a desperate move with his A-8 to get a call from Scott Montgomery with ace-queen. Suharto couldn’t find the way to beat the better ace and it was his time to move away from the table.

All the remaing players who busted out of the tournament, fell by the hands of Peter Eastgate. First, Montgomery was eliminated when his ace-three was against a pairs of sixes. The board fell A-Q-4-A, and before the river was dealt, Dennis Phillips announced he had a six in his hand. But the miracle card of six fell on the river and Montgomery was out in a sick sick way!

Next Eastgate had a sight in Ylon Schwartz, who started the final table well and was a chip leader at one point. Eventually Schwartz fell when he tried to bluff-raise Eastgate away from the pot with a mere ace-high hand, only to get a call from Eastgate, who had a full house in his hand.

Eastgate was doing well with his pocket pairs all day, as the elimination of Phillips also included a pocket pair and a flopped set. Phillips tried to bluff Eastgate away from the pot with ten-nine on the board of J-4-3, but Eastgate naturally called with his set of threes and the countdown to elimination was started for Phillips. The blank turn finalized his destiny and final heads-up pair was settled.

So the final heads-up battle will include Ivan Demidov (picture up) from Russia and Peter Eastgate (picture down) from Denmark, both of which are sponsored by PokerStars. The Dane Eastgate will start the last battle as a chip leader with 79,500,000 chips. Demidov however also has a healthy stack of 57,725,000 chips, so anything can still happen!

The last part of the everlasting Main Event of WSOP 2008 will start today at 10pm local time when it will be resolved who is the new world champion!
