Controversy at the $25.000 heads-up tournament

The huge $25.000 heads-up tournament at PokerStars gathered lots of big names. In the end it was Steve “stevesbets” Jacobs who took home the $560.000 first prize while Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier finished second for $320.000.

The first round saw players like Bill Chen, Isabelle “NoMercy” Mercier, Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein, Andy McLeod, Isaac “westmenloAA” Baron, Noah “Exclusive” Boaken and Chris Moneymaker leaving the tournament empty handed.

The most controversial thing in the tournament was the match between Andy McLeod and Chris “Genius28″ Lee. Lee took the opportunity to start stealing Andys blinds while Andy was disconnected. The following chat then took place:

Andy McLEOD: just want to apologise to everyone, both of my computers at my apartment wouldnt turn on
Genius28: i had to steal blinds, i dont know you and blinds go up every 15
Andy McLEOD: sorry i think thats pathetic
Genius28: if it was non escalating blinds i would have waited a bit
Andy McLEOD: but its your choice not to be ethical
Andy McLEOD: ive waited every time in my life for my oponent
Andy McLEOD: but your choice
Genius28: ur right i should pass up my edge in the early levels to wait for you?
Genius28: in a 25k buyin tournament?
Andy McLEOD: again, its your choice
Genius28: its your responsibility to show up on time and if you dont i have to do what i have to do
Andy McLEOD: you can take that way or you can take being a stand up guy
Genius28: i dont know that you would wait for me
Andy McLEOD: i understand that
Andy McLEOD: you could have asked anyone
Andy McLEOD: and they would have told you
Andy McLEOD: but i’m not getting into this
Andy McLEOD: some people are stand up some are just in for the money
Genius28: why do you bring up ethics
Genius28: arent you the kid that got caught for playing underage
Andy McLEOD: hah yea, totally relevant
Genius28: yea its not cheating or anything when ur taking ppls money like that
Genius28: but w/e

Andy McLEOD: thats just a pathetic cop out, but gl

There was also some funny moments during the heads-up when “stevesbets” bet $121.000 into a $16.000 pot in the river while the board was showing: 3cQs8h7d5c. ElkY made the call with his two pairs holding 3h7h and “stevesbet” lost the huge pot with his AhQh. After the hand “stevesbet” wrote:

stevesbets: so sick

But in the end he managed to back in the game from “ElkY” having the 3:1 chiplead and took down the tournament in the final hand when players got their chips in with “stevesbets” holding a pair of eights against “ElkY”s pair of threes.
