Some WSOP thoughts and grinding

Online poker dead for the next two months?

Poker world´s climax starts tonight - when the WSOP begin. One and half month in Las Vegas with all kind of poker tournaments with bracelets and loads of money on-the-line. Is online poker dead during that period? Many famous players are fighting for bracelets and of course when WSOP is on, cash games in Vegas are running hot also. Old school players are for sure there and players like Benyamine, Antonius, Dwan etc. are playing at the Bobbys Room.

So does anyone play online anymore?

Well most of European players do. Many players are heading to Vegas only for main event or 1-2 week period at some point of WSOP. What about next generation of poker? Players like Sami Kelopuro, Brian Hastings, Isaac Baron, Annette Obrestad, Justin Smith, Randall Flowers etc. are still underage so they are still tearing online-tables.

Last June the action wasn’t the best but still Gus Hansen managed to win over 1,4 million dollars in Full Tilt Pokers Pot-limit Omaha. Another intresting thing is that you will never know who is playing by whose nickname? Finnish and norwegian players are famous for common accounts. While they are playing Chinese poker in the hotel room, laptop is on and PLO tables are often open. Is it Wahlbeck, Sahamies, Antonius, Helppi, Vilmunen or Wahlroos? You never know.

The GRIND is on!

Weather has been so great lately that I haven’t played poker too much this week. Check out this view:

Tough choise to be outside or inside grinding like a madman! Anyway I played a few 4-table PLO200 sessions and also a little bit of PLO400.

The PLO400 session was pretty good for me. I joined in a 5-handed game with 250$ - becouse everyone was shortstacking. In less than 15min and my stack was $360 and then the following hand took place:

My hand:

I was first to speak and bet $12 with this nice hand. Guy after me raised the pot (his stack was about the same as mine) and I of course called that.

Flop:

Nice flop for me so I check-raised myself to all-in and he called with showing:

Opponents hand:

Turn was a nine of hearts so the river didn’t mean anything anymore so I won a nice pot worth over $730. A bit loose play from him?

Then I got involved in a few big pots with a new player. This hand wasn’t so well played by me… but luckily I won that also!

My hand:

I called a raise from the new player having the button myself.

Flop:

Opponent checked so I decide to go for a steal. I bet $30 but quickly he raised to $70. I decide to call since it doesn’t cost too much for me.

Turn:

Villain bet $160. I have only one pair and not even nut flush draw. What does he have? Nut flush draw and other draws? Top two? Set? He only made a small bet on the flop - normally that means good hand. Well what the heck - I solved my problem by moving all-in. He called and showed:

A wrap:

River:

Ship that $630!

Later on I lose a big pot to him being the 60-40 favourite, but thats poker! Luckily I finished that session with a $520 profit so the grind is on!

Bit busy furing the weekend with my friends graduation parties.. but if the hangover isn’t too horrible maybe I’ll have some big tournaments actionon sunday!

Later,
